After last sketch I noticed I got hard time for blocking/painting even simple characters fast. So.. I spend now half and hour blocking and sketching simple walking people. Google image search is nice tool. In first image I used only about 10-30 seconds for sketching. For second Image i used little more time but not too much.
I think this is good way to learn. Just use few seconds, or max few minutes each. You will fastly start to get the main shapes and correct proportions. After you get those basics correct, its easier to start doing details and making your own characters from scratch.
