Wolfman!

Cgtalk daily sketch again.. Wolfman!

I still have lots to practice on many aspects.. but one thing that really bothers in my paintings are color.. I think my colors are "dirty", "Pale", "un-interesting".. and so on. This is one aspect I have thought about many years.. If I try to saturate my paintings or make more value it always goes wrong and when I just paint without adjusting the result is -dull-...

So my next mission is practice lots of color theory and try to find some lessons & tutorials in web about coloring images.

Todays daily sketch Mummy

Nothing new in design but was funny to draw. :)

Still practicing on perspective and I wanted also to improve little on coloring. I really like this cartoon and painting style mix...

Perspective practice`s Day 2

More practice`s in perspective. This time I took blender modeling software and I rendered a scene with it.. took 2h of my time to learn how to do that! But anyway I think blender is going to be great help for me to understand perspective and also lights. I don`t have to setup any real cubes and cones in real life I just need to render a scene with 3d-application... I think its more cool...

Here is the render I made with cubes.

guidelines..

And my overpaint with few new boxes.. :)

Perspective practise

I know one of areas I need really practice is perspective. Today I made three sketches, two digital and one traditional. The last one got little bit carried away..

the first one I made with just reading little bit from some article that I found in Google.
After I made this I found video on Youtube, which tells that amateurs normally tend to make the vanishing points too close to each other, and it makes the "fish-eye" feel to it.. Exactly what I made..

This is the one which I made maybe little bit too long :P

I really recommend watching this awesome guys lessons about perspective.. I still need to watch all of those.

My first random doodles in here!

My goal is publish (almost) everything I paint, sketch and doodle in this year... Here is the first one... Im actually little bit happy about the result.. I couldnt really draw any characters few months ago.

I finished reading Andrew Loomis "Fun with pencil" and I noticed lots of improvement in my skills. First time I really thought whats the subjects are than just copying like a monkey!

Goals, goals & goals!

Lets set some short term and long term goals!

To improve in digital art, I am going to have some goals. There is along way to go for me improving my art skills, so at least I have to know where I am headed.
I never actually set my self any goals to reach. I have only made daily sketches at Cgtalk and that`s about it.
Having goal is important because it makes you plan your acts better.

These goals might change in future but at least there is something I have thought already.

Long Term

  • I will make one sketching/painting post everyday in this blog for a year! If im not able for some reason, I have to catch up making many in few day. (in 23th of October this blog has to have 365 posts)
  • In one year I will be at least twice as good as I am now!
  • I will improve and read theory in these painting and drawing areas:
    • Character drawing/painting
    • Vehicle drawing/designing
    • Environment painting
    • Color Theory
    • Perspective

Short Term

  • I will finish Jose M. Parramons "Color pencil drawing" book in the end of this year!
  • I will make portfolio in next few months
  • I will make series painting(No more only sketches!!) and ask people to criticize it, to see my biggest mistakes. So I can crush my mistakes and really IMPROVE!
So lets see how I can keep with my goals.

Also yesterday I made a digital sketch on topic "The Lone Cowboy"... I will use this sketch painting as a reference how much I did improve in one year. After one year, I will do same painting about this same topic and then we can compare, if my year have been any good.

The Beginning: My road to expirience

I`m going to add here all my work what I do "almost" daily. Last blog I had was way too narrow in genre and I got bored to update it too often.
My plan in future is to paint digitally really often and hopefully get more experiences and get some more practice. I think I haven`t evolved long time and i`m going to find out why.

Idea is to post every painting in here.. good or bad (trust me, I make awful lot bad works). And hopefully in year or two this blog would be encouraging for people who are now in the same level that I am right now. Novice..or a just little beyond that level..
and the blog would have an answer for these questions:
  • How to get better?
  • How to Improve (being stuck same level for... years?!) ?
  • How be motivated?
  • How much time I need to get good enough?
I am going to follow the example of Journey of an Absolute Rookie: Paintings and Sketches - forum blog at conceptart.org.
I feel that I am in similar level right now, I know something and I have basics skills in digital painting but I still dont feel good enought.... So basic idea is walk the same hard road that every skillful painter has gone and share the ideas and tips in the same. Also show pretty much how much you have to work to get there!!

Wish me luck...
